What Is Pia Wurtzbach’s New Project?

  • August 10, 2017

In every pageant, aspiring beauty queens need to have an advocacy. Something they want to fight for and will work on during their reign. But for Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, her advocacy doesn’t end the moment she passes on the crown. Pia continues to fight and take bold actions for HIV awareness, even a year after her Miss Universe reign ended.

In the recently held Love Gala Unveiling, Pia Wurtzbach launched her very own project which she calls Progressive Information Awareness project or the PIA campaign. The PIA campaign will focus on spreading information on HIV and Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE), and promoting self-worth among the youth.

Pia did a live HIV testing in front of the press to encourage everyone to do the same. It proves how quick, confidential and safe the procedure is. “I encourage everyone to get tested. Wala talagang magiging progress if walang testing. And as a Goodwill ambassador, I want to start my advocacy here at home,” Pia said in her opening speech.

Pia then elaborated on her new passion project. “With the PIA project we hope to see an increase in HIV awareness, spread love for people living with HIV, and make HIV testing among Filipinos a normal part of their health and wellness routine,” said Ms. Wurtzbach. Through five key initiatives, the PIA project will help influence positive behavior towards HIV: the Live2LUV campaign, PIA Video campaign, Love Gala, Project PITCH, ad Policy Advocacy.

Now that the HIV cases in the country is at an all time high, the beauty queen and actress is doing all she can to help and continue her advocacy by using her influence to help give HIV the national attention it deserves and ease the stigma surrounding the virus.

Continue fighting the good fight, Queen P!
