Liza Soberano, who is a self-confessed conservative lady, recently revealed that she’s a little apprehensive what her Darna costume will look like. Darna is a Filipino superhero who’s popular not just for her super powers, but also for her iconic red costume. Since its comics release in 1950, the design of Darna’s costume has always been sexy and revealing. Even the creators of the previous series and movie adaptations of Darna starring Vilma Santos, Marian Rivera, Angel Locsin among others, followed the original costume design.
This year, the character of Darna is making a movie comeback in the face of Liza. The 19-year-old actress was chosen to bring life to the iconic female superhero for Erik Matti’s film adaptation. However, Liza said that she’s not comfortable to show too much skin for the role. “I’m very conservative. I don’t like showing too much skin,” said the actress in front of the press at the recently held Star Magic Ball 2017.
“Of course, as if I will have a say on it, but I would say gusto ko, covered. But I think that’s part of the challenges… For me to jump out of that box, try something that I haven’t tried before. It will be a great opportunity for me to learn and be more comfortable with my body and my skin if I were to wear that iconic costume,” noted Liza.
Liza said she’s willing to take new challenges for the upcoming film, which includes wearing Darna’s iconic two-piece costume. The young actress is slowly convincing herself that sporting Darna’s sexy costume is one of the many ways of stepping out of her comfort zone.
