There has been a lot of talk about depression lately, with Joey de Leon’s insensitive remarks and Maine Mendoza opposing his ignorant statement, people are starting to talk more and more about mental health.

Now that the host-comedian has expressed his apologies, there’s a silver lining to him blurting out ignorant remarks on national television which is getting more people educated about the matter. Because of this incident, celebrities are getting more outspoken with this matter.

In light of World Mental Health day, Nadine Lustre and James Reid showed their support through posting on their Instagram stories a semi colon with the hashtag #KeepGoing. Nadine also added the words “You are stronger than your depression.”

The semicolon is a popular symbol for presenting hope and love to those struggling with mental health disorders, including depression. In grammar, semi-colon is used when the author could’ve ended the sentence, but chose not to. The sentence symbolizes one’s life.

Semi-colon signifies the strength and encouragement of continuing to live. It’s for those who survived their mental health problems and also for those who are still struggling. It’s also to recognize people’s struggle, survival, and victory.

In times like this, we need more public figures who are brave enough to speak up about their own struggles and other people’s as well. We are delighted that young celebrities such as Maine Mendoza, Nadine Lustre, and James Reid are not only in show business for the fame, but to educate and send positive messages as well.

Kudos to you, guys!
